Basic Search allows searching by keywords, topics and subtopics. Selecting a topic or subtopic from the pull-down menu is a good way to narrow down search to a more specific area.
Keyword Search Tips
Keyword searching is how you typically search web database and search engines. We recommend that you start with a keyword search. Think of the most important words or phrases and then type them in to get results.
Choose keywords to represent the most important concepts in your topic. Make a list of many possible keywords. You can use "AND" to combine different keywords and narrow your search (For example, search keywords ‘Alzheimer’s AND caregiving’) or type in a simple phrase (For example, search keywords ‘jobs for disabled). Evaluate your results, and revise your strategy as often as you need to. Don't stop at one search, especially if it isn't very successful. The more keywords you add, the more it narrows down your search, and focuses on the topic. On the other hand, if you add too many, you will end up with very few, or no resources.
