Southlake Regional Health Centre


The Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care Programs support cancer patients and their families to improve their quality of life. Tailored to an individual’s unique physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs, a variety of supports are available throughout the course of an illness from diagnosis to the completion of treatment, as well as relapse and end-of-life care. Services offered include pain and symptom management clinic which focuses on improving overall wellbeing by treating symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath and anxiety, a psychosocial oncology assessment clinic which focuses on rapid assessment of depression anxiety and strategies to cope with illness, individual counseling appointments, a lymphedema clinic, and ongoing group support programs which may include: support groups for newly diagnosed patients, support group for caregivers, transitions program for those completing their treatment, support group for patients with relapsed or advanced cancer, referral to bereavement groups, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
